Westgate Hotel

Welcome to the Westgate Hotel, Oxford, a small friendly, family-run hotel where the aim is to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

Whether you are in Oxford for a day or a week, the Westgate Hotel is the ideal venue for your business or leisure trip. Set in the west of Oxford very close to the railway station it is only a ten minute walk to the hustle and bustle of the city centre or, if you are looking for peace and tranquillity, a two minute walk to the river Thames and the countryside and idyllic views of Oxford's dreaming spires.

Originally built as a coaching inn and taking its name from its proximity to the west gate toll entrance of the City of Oxford the Westgate Hotel is owned and operated by a family of professional hoteliers with more than 40 years experience. It is a small friendly, family-run hotel where the aim is to make your stay as pleasant and comfortable as possible. The design of the building is not suitable for those with accessbility needs, with narrow staircases and no ground floor accommodation.

There are two buildings, the main hotel with public facilities and twelve en-suite bedrooms and an Annexe building situated two minutes away, across the road, which has seven rooms with shared bathroom, over three floors.

Oxford is known as the 'city of the dreaming spires' - a term first coined by poet Matthew Arnold in reference to the gentle spires and harmonious architecture of the city's university buildings.

The beauty of the city's colleges and riverside setting, literary links and stunning film and TV locations, shops with local character and music and drama ranging from candlelit evensong in college chapels to Shakespeare in the park - these ingredients blend with Oxford's lively mix of restaurants, pubs, theatres and tourist attraction to give this historic city its alluring, vibrant and cosmopolitan buzz.

RAILWAY BRIDGE ROAD CLOSED

The railway bridge on Botley road will be closed to vehicle access until October 2024 for renovations to the railway bridge and train station. The Botley road will not be serving city centre traffic, so the road outside the hotel will be less busy, with less rush hour congestion. Pedestrians can still walk under the bridge as normal. You can still access the hotel by car driving into Oxford from the west (Botley road).

NOISE ISSUES

During the redevelopment the council have given permission for work 24/7.Network Rail assured us they will limit noisy works overnight and on most occasions there has been little overnight disturbance. You may have read recent reviews where noise has been particularly loud overnight. We are currently in discussion with Oxford City Council about the negative impact these works have on our guests and the heavy overnight works should cease from 12th June until further notice. We have asked for a full timetable so we can properly inform our guests when the overnight works will take place.
